A beautiful week-end at The Potters Market in Guelph

It was a fine week-end weather-wise and that can make all the difference for an outdoor show!  The setting for this show is stunning, in the ruins of an old mill along the Speed River in Guelph.  Here are a few shots of two of the areas where most of the 50 potters were set up.  Maybe a dozen more were set up along the entrance to the mill.  A local catering company provided great food and beverages and musical entertainment was provided by the adjoining music school.  A great show--it was lovely to be part of it!

Looking forward to this show next week-end!  Held in the limestone ruins of the Goldie Mill in downtown Guelph, beside the Speed River.  An amazing group of over 50 potters will be gathering to offer their wares for sale.  I'm looking forward to meeting those I haven't already met & seeing their work.

As advertised:  It's the only outdoor event of its kind in Ontario, modeled after the famous potters markets of Europe, such as the hugely popular "Diessener Topfemarkt" in Upper Bavaria.

Bruce Cochrane exhibition

Bruce Cochrane was the juror at the guild's spring exhibition this year.  He has recently retired from teaching at Sheridan College in Toronto and was in town to give a hands on pottery workshop.  In conjunction with that, he also brought along some of his pots which were on display (maybe still are) at the Dust Evans Gallery at the Shenkman Centre.  Just looking at them again--the photos don't do them justice.  They are amazing pieces--the geometry, the precision, the intricate textures, the scale of the largest ones--all very impressive.

Ottawa Guild of Potters Spring Sale and Juried Exhibition

The Potters Guild show starts tomorrow at 4 p.m.  At 5 p.m. there will be a Vernissage for the Exhibition where this year's juror, Bruce Cochrane, will be present to comment on pieces and award prizes.  The show is open until 10 p.m. three evenings.  I (& over 30 other potters) will have a wide variety of pots to choose from.

Originals Spring Show starts Thursday

I'll be at the Originals Spring show for the first time, with a smaller booth than I have at the Originals Christmas Show.  I'll be in Booth #704, close to the front along the right hand wall as you come in.

There is a big Wedding Show going on at the same time in another hall at the EY Centre, and double passes are available for both shows--should you be so lucky as to be planning a wedding!

I have lots of large serving bowls, baking dishes, teapots, etc. that would make lovely wedding gifts.

New pots for spring sales

Thought you might like to see some of the new pots I'll be selling at three upcoming sales.  Tomorrow and Sunday I'm at the Westend Pottery Sale.  Next week, April 3-6 at the Originals Spring Show at the EY Centre near the airport and the following week, April 10-13 at the Ottawa Guild of Potters Sale at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans.

It doesn't look like we'll be seeing tulips blooming anytime soon around here so I purchased some.  Don't they lift your spirits?  They're showing off some of the vases I'll be selling (or is it the other way around?)

The Westend Pottery Sale March 29 & 30 in Westboro

This year's Westend Pottery Sale is shaping up to be a fun event.  It's my first sale in the spring--I only hope that it will in fact feel and look like spring by the time this sale takes place! Nevertheless, the atmosphere at the sale will be springlike, what with all the fresh new pottery that these 22 potters have been working on.

Each potter donates one piece towards gift baskets that are raffled off--a real treat for four lucky customers! This year food in the tea room is being provided by Krackers Katering, www.krackerskatering.org, a local organization that gives people with disabilities or economic disadvantages skills training and employment opportunities.  On Saturday there will be soup (carrot ginger) and sandwiches (5 or 6 kinds) available.  Both Saturday & Sunday they will provide a yummy selection of desserts.
