A big thank-you to everyone that came out to the Originals Show this year.  I was happy to have a corner booth which allowed for a bit of extra shelving.  This configuration also allowed for more storage behind the shelving units.  It's always a challenge to figure out how best to use your allotted space at craft shows.  I'm sure there will be some more tweaking to do before next year's show.

Originals Craft Show Dec. 7-17

Last show of the year for me starts on Thursday!  You can find me in Booth 310. Originals always has a great handmade craft selection.  A great way to see what the craft community is up to and to support their creativity.

Fermenting Pots

Who knew that fermenting pots would be so popular?  I just started making them last year at the request of one of my customers and haven't been able to keep them in stock since.  I'm sold out for this year, but will be making more in the new year.

They are great for making sauerkraut & kimchi, and I'm sure many other fermentation recipes.  Recently a customer told me they would work well for making Rum Pot (she used the German name "Rumtopf") and recommended putting rum in the lid gallery instead of water.  I also sold one to someone who plans to use it for herring.  So the possibilities seem endless....

Look for more fermenting pots at my spring shows, or contact me to order one!

Aberfoyle Potters Market

This sale is organized by the same folks who do the Guelph Potters Market in the spring.  The Aberfoyle one is indoors.  More info on their facebook page.  It'll be fun to see what these (mostly) southern Ontario potters have been up to!

The Aberfoyle Farmers Market is next door and Sat. Oct. 28 is their Christmas Market, the final one of the season.  Both on Brock Road, just off the 40l near Guelph.

These cute guys are carved with a chain saw & are popular in bear country!
I've been doing this nice little show in Bancroft since 2010.  It's held the same week-end as Bancroft's Gemboree which attracts folks from inside and outside of Canada, many of whom make their way to the park for this art & craft show.  There is live music throughout, with musicians playing one or two hour sets.  It was a great week-end once again, despite the winds & rain that swept down on the park several times!

Annual studio sale

What a good excuse to clean up the studio and clear out pots!  My annual sale has moved from pre-Christmas to the spring.  In addition to pots fresh out of the kiln, I'll be marking down those that have been sitting on my shelves for too long.  I enjoy opening up my work space to the public once/year.

Guelph Potters Market

Looking forward to the Guelph Potters Market.  I'll be in the company of some very fine potters in a lovely park location.  Looks like there will be about 60 of us there--from young artists to their mentors, including some very well renowned potters.  This show is a great demonstration of what can emerge from dedication to clay and fire!

New pots for Originals Spring Craft Sale

This will be my fourth year at the Originals Spring show.  It's been a busy winter restocking shelves and making quite a few new items.  Some were requests from customers, like the vinegar pots, salt cellars and fermenting pots.  What was old is new again!  Nice to see a growing interest in cooking, preserving, slow food processes, etc.  Sharing a thoughtfully prepared meal with family &/or friends is a true pleasure, made all the more pleasurable when served on handmade dishes.

Getting ready for 2017 shows

I've been busy in the studio trying to be as productive as possible during these first months of the year before the craft show season begins.  I'm happy to have some orders to work on and am finding time to experiment with some new forms.  As much as I love my backyard studio, during these cold winter months I lament the fact that there's no water out there.  It's so much easier in the summer to use the nearby garden hose and wash out buckets, glaze sieves, etc. outside.  I've learned over the years to make sure I have enough glazes mixed to get me through these few months.  And I try to wait patiently for those first few days that get above freezing when I can get outside to use my spray glaze equipment for those larger pieces which I prefer to spray.

And these are the months when show applications for the summer and fall must be carefully prepared and sent off.  This year I seem to have a few conflicts with longstanding shows, so I'm applying for a few new ones to try to fill the gap.  Fingers crossed that I'll be accepted....you never know, until the jury makes their decision.

In the meantime, I've updated my show list as best I know it now.  Looking forward to a full slate of shows starting in early April with the Originals Spring Show in Ottawa.

Happy New Year!

The application process for 2017 shows is well underway!  Soon I will post the list of shows where you will be able to find me this year...mostly the same as last year, but perhaps with one or two new ones.  Between shows you can find some of my work at the stores listed, or contact me.
